About the Carleton Weather Tower

The Carleton College Weather Tower is located in the Carleton Arboretum. Standing at approximately 32 feet tall, it houses around 50 specialized weather instruments. The project to put this tower together and collect and archive data from the tower has been in progress for many years. The tower sends over 550 data fields every minute, and this data is archived from August of 2023. Unfortunately, as with any project this large, technical setbacks abound, and there have been some tower outages and corrupted data. This website is intended to display the data as it currently stands, and work is in progress to restore any corrupted data and to determine the cause and time periods of outages and any unrecoverable data. For a look at the project's history and early development, you can visit the legacy 2015 weather blog.
